Did you know that motor oil can leak into the ground and contaminate our water supply? Proper disposal is also regulated by our government, so pay attention to this tip to help environment and also to help from getting a hefty fine.
If you’re the type of person that enjoys doing their own oil changes, then you probably have a couple containers of used motor oil sitting in your garage. If you want to clear up that space, then listen up. Proper disposal is easier than you think.
If you drained the oil from your car into sealable oil pan, then simply take the oil down to your local parts store franchise. I recommend taking it to AutoZone or advance auto parts. Both of these local parts shops have a “Lube Cube” that they keep in the back for customers to dispose of their used oil.
The oil in the “Lube Cube” is then refined and repurposed as lubricant which has many industrial applications. Your oil filter can also be disposed of properly. Once all the oil has drained from the filter, it can be recycled at a local scrap yard.
